Facebook

So, you're using Facebook every second, every minute and every day. But, do you know who is the man behind it all?
(Mark Zuckerberg)

Early years

  • Began using computers and writing software as a child
  • Software developer David Newman to tutor him and calls him a "prodigy," adding that it was "tough to stay ahead of him.
  • Took a graduate course in the subject at a college near his home while he was still in high school
  • Microsoft and AOL tried to recruit Zuckerberg, but he chose instead to enroll at Harvard College in September 2002.

Harvard years

  • Wrote a program called CourseMatch
  • Created a different program called Facemash
  • Facemash was ordered to shut down because its popularity had overwhelmed Harvard's server and prevented students from accessing the web.
  • Many students complained that their photos were being used without permission.
  • Mark decided if the university will not develop the website, he will, and he would build a site that would be even better than what the university had planned.
Interesting, isn't it? To look back at how Facebook has changed all our lives!

Once again, do remember to join our Facebook page and 'like' us!

Interesting Social Media Marketing

Marketing is not just about marketing a product or service through the traditional means like print advertising anymore. Now companies are using social media as a form of marketing as well. In NYP, all year 3 students are required to take up New Media Marketing. This module will further illustrate to you what are the pros and cons of each social media platforms and how companies actually use it to market their products or highlight their promotions.

  • BMW " 1 Series Graffiti Contest
BMW actually created an Online Graffiti contest where participants answered the question "what drives you?" through designs on the outline of the car. They got a total of 9000 drawings and about 500,000 votes. The winner win themselves a car model instead of the actual vehicles

  • Ikea "Facebook Show room"
To promote their new store in Malmo, Ikea actually asked their store manager to upload their new showrooms on Facebook. The first person who tag themselves win the items won them. This campaign won a Gold Cyber Lion at Cannes International Advertising Festival.
